If we want to change the world, we must begin by changing ourselves; if we change ourselves, we will indeed change the world. -Burton Blatt
Who Are Human Service Workers? People who are:
|Interested in Helping Others||Good Communicators|
|Relationship Builders||Critical Thinkers|
|Sensitive to Diversity||Open to New Ideas|
If you are patient and fair, respect differences, a team player and get a lot of satisfaction from empowering people to make decisions, you may find a career in the Human Service field to be very rewarding. Remember, it’s never too late to make a career move!
What is the Job Outlook?
Employment of social and human service assistants is expected to grow by 28 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be due to an increase in the elderly population and rising demand for health care and social services. In addition, growth is expected as more people seek treatment for their addictions and more drug offenders are sent to treatment programs rather than jail. Job opportunities for social and human service assistants are expected to be excellent, particularly for applicants with appropriate postsecondary education. Many additional job opportunities will arise from the need to replace workers who advance into new positions, retire, or leave the workforce for other reasons. Salaries and responsibilites vary according to the work setting, education and experience.
