This course concentrates on the physician's perspective on pathophysiology involving the nervous system, cardio-vascular system and trauma situations as they relate to the respiratory care practitioner. Instruction will be by the medical director of the respiratory therapy program and furing rounds in the intensive care units. Included is a discussion of the etiology, pathophysiology, pharmacologic treatment and ventilator management of these various disorders. Students will spend time in the intensive care units observing and monitoring ventilator management under the direction of a respiratory care practitioner.
