At the end of the Human Services Associate Degree Program the graduate will:
Be knowledgeable about the range of effective communication strategies and skills necessary to establish a collaborative relationship with the participant.
Be knowledgeable about formal and informal assessment practices in order to respond to the needs, desires and interests of the participants.
Be knowledgeable about the formal and informal supports available in his or her community and skilled in assisting the participant to identify and gain access to such supports.
Be knowledgeable about a range of participatory planning techniques and is skilled in implementing plans in a collaborative and expeditious manner.
Be able to match specific supports and interventions to the unique needs of individual participants and recognizes the importance of friends, family and community relationships.
Be able to identify areas for self improvement, pursue necessary educational/training resources, and share knowledge with others.
Be knowledgeable about the diverse challenges facing participants (e.g. human rights, legal, administrative and financial) and should be able to identify and use effective advocacy strategies to overcome such challenges.
Be knowledgeable about the career and education related concerns of the participant and should be able to mobilize the resources and support necessary to assist the participant to reach his or her goals.
Be knowledgeable about crisis prevention, intervention and resolution techniques and should match such techniques to particular circumstances and individuals.
Be familiar with the mission and practices of the support organization and participates in the life of the organization.
Be aware of the requirements for documentation in his or her organization and is able to manage these requirements efficiently.

At the end of the Human Services Certificate Program the graduate will:
Apply formalized concepts of theory and practice to their working environment in the community-based human services field.
Be able to define his/her functions and integrate those functions into his/her role as a member of a team.
Demonstrate empathy for individuals receiving services and be ethical in conduct.
Practice humanistic skills in supporting individuals and their families.
Demonstrate a commitment to encouragement of independence and age-appropriate growth of the individual.
Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the need to develop services which maximize community participation by all individuals.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate in both written and oral form, using language that is understandable and grammatically correct.
The program also addresses less concrete, but equally important issues. Its task is to instill a professional attitude in our students, which will help them work with individuals with dignity and respect to individual rights. The Human Services faculty and representative of affiliated agencies re-affirm their commitment to educate staff to provide community-based supports and services for individuals with a variety of challenges.
At the end of the Early Intervention/Family Support Assistant Certificate Program the graduate will:
Respect diversity in cultural heritages, life styles, and value systems among families.
Accurately and respectfully use written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills to ensure understanding in the delivery of Early Intervention services.
Demonstrate knowledge foundations to effectively assist in the implementation of the general components of the service plan designed for individual families.
Function as a productive member of a team, with understanding of the roles and responsibilities of each member.
Develop supportive, trusting partnerships with families.
Implement follow-up intervention services as directed by the primary professional provider while maintaining flexibility and a sensitivity to the expressed and perceived needs of family members.
Empower families to move from dependence on formal supports to independence and effective use of informal supports.
Demonstrate an ability to practice legal, ethical, and professional standards of conduct as established by the law and the lead social service agency.
