The Role of the Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory Therapists are health care workers who are highly trained in the treatment and testing of lung disorders. The roles or Respiratory Therapists are extensive. They administer aerosolized medication to people with lung disease, like asthma or emphysema, and maintain life support on people of all ages, from premature infants to the elderly. They also have an important role in maintaining the airway during cardiac and respiratory arrest situations. In addition, respiratory therapists perform patient education and diagnostic testing.
