The Board of Trustees of the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) has appointed River Valley Community College President Alicia Harvey-Smith to the New Hampshire Higher Education Commission. "Dr. Harvey-Smith has brought a valuable educational leadership energy and voice to New Hampshire and to River Valley Community College," said CCSNH chancellor Ross Gittell in announcing her appointment. "I know she will make significant contributions through service on the Higher Education Commission, which provides statewide support and oversight for colleges and universities in New Hampshire."
Dr. Harvey-Smith, who joined River Valley Community College as president in July 2013, held such positions as Vice-President of Student Affairs, Dean of Learning and Student Development and Dean of Learning Support Systems in Community Colleges in Maryland. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the American Conference of Academic Deans, an American Association of Colleges and Universities (AACU) Affiliate Council, Director at Large for the National Council of Student Development (NCSD), an American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Affiliate Council, the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) and the AACC Commission for Academic, Student and Community Development. She has also served as Faculty for the NCSD Leadership Institute and the National Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Institute on Student Success. Dr. Harvey-Smith, most recently, served on the board of directors for the Center for Remarkable Women in Maryland and Women in Maryland Higher Education (WIMHE). “I am excited to be a new member of the CCSNH Presidential team and look forward to being a contributing member of the NH Higher Education Commission.”
