River Valley will be hosting Dr. James Wilton of Valley Regional Hospital to talk about the overall consequences of smoking.  the talks will take place at the Claremont campus on November 15 from 12 to 1 PM and later that same day at the Keene Academic Center from 5 to 6 PM.

Both events will include a student forum to discuss creating a smoke free community college campus at all three RVCC locations. The noon event at the Claremont campus will also be telecast to the Lebanon Academic Center. Refreshments will be served and all staff, students and community members are invited.

Dr Wilton will be addressing the affects of smoking with specific information from the Centers of Disease Control  He is a board certified DO with medical training from Temple University and is the medical staff president at Valley regional hospital. Dr Wilton is a nationally known lecturer and we are excited to have him speak to our communities. Please join us for one of these informative sessions.

Participants will receive:
• 1 weeks’ worth of nicotine patches or gum
• A “Comfort Kit” of goodies to help with one day (or longer) quit attempt
• Brief Coaching to help you through the day.
• Follow up services available from local tobacco cessation resources and the State of New Hampshire Quit-line @ 1-800QuitNow.
• A day pass to the Keene Family YMCA
• Connect with Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco Free Communities
 
Quitting smoking isn’t easy, but you can do it. To have the best chance of quitting and staying quit, know what your options are and where to go for help.

By quitting – even for 1 day – smokers take an important step toward a healthier life and reducing cancer risk. Plan or encourage someone you know to quit on November 16, 2017.
