River Valley’s Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) program prepares the next generation of nurses by providing an exceptional education that integrates nursing knowledge with liberal arts courses that focus on life and social sciences. Each nursing course incorporates classroom learning with simulation laboratory activities and faculty-supervised clinical experiences to prepare students to provide holistic nursing care to individuals, families, and groups. With these experiences, students are exposed to a variety of patient populations within the community as part of their curriculum.

The pre-licensure ASN program for students with no previous nursing experience requires requisite courses and 2 years of focused nursing courses. Upon successful completion of the program and general education coursework, students will earn an ASN degree and will be eligible to apply for the RN licensure exam (NCLEX-RN). Many students complete the required general education courses prior to admission into the nursing program. Students must successfully complete 65-66 college credits to meet graduation requirements for the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. There is also an advanced-placement option for students who are currently Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s). Effective Fall 2008, students cannot enroll and begin the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree Program until they have an active NH license as a LNA (Licensed Nurse Assistant).

Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). If you choose to pursue this degree to become a registered nurse, you should know that RN jobs are expected to grow 16 percent through 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, the Gallup Poll results indicate that nursing has been the most trusted profession for over 20 years!
