Poet Jennifer Militello to Read at RVCC

Jennifer Militello, a professor and director of the Creative Writing program at River Valley Community College, will be reading from her new book, A Camouflage of Specimens and Garments, at the College’s Puksta Library in Claremont on Wednesday, April 20, 12:30pm.  The reading is free and open to the public.

In her third full-length collection, Militello weaves together fragments of letter and voice, assembling threads of illness and struggle into the fabric of poetry, manufacturing shelter from a world that cannot be controlled. Ventriloquizing heroes from myth, long-dead composers, ancient goddesses and murdered girls, Militello composes layered “dictionaries” that readers may use as magical cloaks or tutelary amulets. As the poet explores all manner of disguises, A Camouflage of Specimens and Garments (Tupelo Press, 2016) casts a smokescreen of selves.

Militello is also the author of Body Thesaurus, named one of the top ten books of 2013 by Best American Poetry as well as a finalist for the Poetry Society of America's Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award, and Flinch of Song, winner of the Tupelo Press First Book Award. Her work has been anthologized in Best New Poets and the Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day: 365 Poems for Every. Occasion, and awarded grants and fellowships from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Writers at Work, and the Millay Colony for the Arts.
